Shipmates: I have just finished reading a new book on Admiral Nimitz. The title of the book is “Admiral Nimitz, The Commander of the Pacific Ocean Theater and the author is Brayton Harris. The publisher is Palgrave MacMillan and the book price in hardcover is $26.00. I found this biography of Admiral Nimitz to be fascinating and concise. I believe Mr. Harris has captured the true spirit of the Admiral and he has well documented and researched his facts. I was amazed at the amount of information that I did not know and is contained in this book. I hope everyone has an opportunity to read this book and I highly recommend it. The publisher was kind enough to provide me with extra copies that I will have as silent auction items at our next reunion! Phyllis and I are looking forward hosting and to seeing everyone in Sacramento in September!

Hello Shipmates! Hope everyone had a great holiday season. To catch up on Association business I have a few announcements to make Rich Galicki has stepped up to be the new Chairperson for the By-laws Committee and John Correia is the new Reunion Coordinator. Thank you both for your support. We also have three additional positions currently open in the Association: Historian, Nomination and Audit Committee Chairs. Please contact me if you are interested in one of these positions. Additionally, at the up-coming reunion in Pensacola we have the following elected Officer positions opening up and will need to have individuals nominated for them. The Secretary/Treasurer and Spouse Advocate are terming out and will need to be filled. Please consider running for the elected officers or volunteer for one of the other positions.

As most of you probably know by now, our ship on December 6th, 2010 moved to Bremeton, Washington for a yard period. The following is official information as to their future:
WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Navy announced Dec. 9 that the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) will be homeported at Naval Station Everett, Wash., upon completion of the ship's docking planned incremental availability (DPIA) maintenance at Bremerton, Wash., in December 2011.

Abraham Lincoln is presently deployed to the Central Command Area of Responsibility.

Hello Shipmates! My name is Ed Deats and I was elected as the Association's new president by the members who attened our recent reunion in Phoenix, Arizona. My service on the great ship Nimitz was from 1978 to 1981 and I was a member of H Division, better known as the Medical Department. I am extremely proud to follow in the footsteps of our past president's: Bill Paschall, Bill Nielsen, Joe Brunner and Ray Bigelow. For those who made the reunion this year, thank you for your support and making the reunion great! For those who could not make it, we missed you and hope you can attend the 2011 reunion which will be held in Pensacola, Florida during the week of 26 - 30 October 2011. I look forward to seeing a huge turnout of members, family, and guests, as we will be celebrating the birthday of Naval Aviation!
